Après l’Ile de Rab, Venise et le Lac de Garde, la dernière étape de notre voyage est le lac de Côme.
Après une bonne nuit au petit camping de Menaggio, nous nous mettons à l’eau à 9h pour aller vers le Nord du lac. Depuis l’eau, nous observons les falaises d’escalade, les magnifiques villas et de jolis villages. A 11h15, on aperçoit le bout du lac donc on décide de faire demi-tour. On fait une petite pause lancers de cailloux peu de temps après (Jean a gagné) et nous repartons, face à un vent fort. Seconde pause pour le déjeuner (mélange de céréales à l’oignon et curry) et c’est la dernière ligne droite vers le camping. On prépare un flan au chocolat (avec eau et lait en poudre) pour le soir tout en dévorant nos biscuits italiens. Puis petite balade vers le spot d’escalade au bord du lac et dans le village de Menaggio avec ses rues caillouteuses et pentues. Retour au camping pour le repas sur la plage (boulgour à la soupe aux champignons et flan au chocolat, un délice ce dessert). La météo annonce une nuit pluvieuse… à voir !
Effectivement, la nuit a été humide ! Mais notre tarp a bien résisté (oui, nous sommes en camping mais non, nous n’avons pas de tente, juste une toile tendue au dessus de nous et « fermée » à l’aide de serviettes de bain…). A 9h45, nous partons en kayak dans un lac quelque peu agité ! Sans jupe au départ, on s’arrête vite pour la mettre. Cette fois-ci, on part vers le Sud pendant environ 2h, jusqu’à la Villa del Balbianello, très jolie et aux arbres bien taillés. La seule plaque commémorative que l’on a réussi à déchiffer pendant notre voyage y relate la mort de Georges Devos qui a péri en kayak durant une tempête non loin de la villa… Récit très encourageant pour nous ! Le vent s’est calmé depuis le départ et nous l’avons finalement dans le dos pour le retour. Pause déjeuner (riz au citron et romarin, fuseau lorrain et pomme) sur une plage et lancers de cailloux (Jean a gagné). Arrivée au camping vers 14h45 et on s’offre une coupe de glace à Menaggio ! Petite balade pour observer le style de grimpe à l’italienne, écriture des cartes postales pour les amis et repas sur la plage (amandes grillées, nouilles chinoises et coquillettes avec sardines au curry). Jean a de nouveau gagné aux lancers de cailloux. La météo annonce une nuit humide mais moins que la veille à priori.
La nuit aura été très orageuse : de minuit à 5h du matin sans discontinuité… La nuit a été courte et le beau temps n’est toujours pas au rendez-vous le matin du 5 juin. Nous voulions aller à pied jusqu’à un point de vue sur le lac mais nous prenons finalement la route en direction de la Suisse. Le mauvais temps dans les Alpes aura eu raison de nous : nous voulions pagayer dans le lac de Lucerne mais la pluie persistante nous change tellement du beau temps habituel que nous décidons de rentrer en France directement. Avec une petite pause en Alsace pour cueillir des fraises, acheter un kouglof et du munster ! De quoi bien clôturer de superbes vacances ! 😀

After the Island of Rab, Venice and the Garda Lake, the laststep of our trip is the Como Lake.
After a good night at the small campsite of Menaggio, we get water at 9:00 to go to the North of the lake. From the water, we observe the climbing cliffs, the beautiful villas and pretty villages. At 11:00, we can see the end of the lake, so we decide to go back. We do a small break to throw stones just after (Jean won) and we paddle again, with a strong headwind. Second break for lunch (salty mix of cereals with onion and curry) and it is the last straight line towards the campsite. We prepare a chocolate pudding (with water and powdered milk) for the evening while devoring our Italian biscuits. Then we walk to the spot of climbing and then in the village of Menaggio with its stony and steep streets. Back to the campsite for the dinner on the beach (bulgur with mushrooms soup and the pudding, a delightful dessert). The weather forecast a rainy night… let us see!
Actually, it has been a wet night! But our tarp held us well (yes, we are in camping, but no, we do not have a tent, just a toile stretched above us and closed using towels…). At 9:45, we start kayaking in a restless lake! Without skirt at the beginning, we quickly stop to put it. This time, we go to the South for about 2 hours, until the Villa del Balbianello, very pretty and with well pruned trees. The only plaque that we have managed to understand during our trip chroniclesthe death of Georges Devos, who died in a kayak during a storm not far from the villa… The story is very encouraging for us! The wind has calmed down since the departure and we finally got it in the back for the return. Lunch break (rice with lemon and rosemary, sausage and apple) on a beach and we throw stones (Jean won, again). Arrival at the campsite around 14:45 and we eat an ice cream cup in Menaggio. Short walk to observe the style of Italian climbing, writing postcards for friends and lunch on the beach (toasted almonds, Chinese noodles and pasta with sardines and curry). Jean won again to the throwing of stones. The weather forecast a wet night, but less than yesterday.
It was a stormy night: from midnight to 5:00 without interruption… The night was short and the weather is not good at all in the morning. We wanted to walk to a point of view on the lake, but we finally take the road in the direction of Switzerland. The bad weather in the Alps got the better of us: we wanted to paddle into the Lucerne Lake but with persistent rain, we are not enough motivated so we decide to return in France directly. With a small break in Alsace to pick up strawberries, buy a kugelhopf and munster! We well finish great holidays! 😀
